5 Myanmar citizens held for intrusion
Police arrested five Myanmar citizens at Soroi under Lama upazilla of Bandarban district on Tuesday night on charge of illegal entry into Bangladesh.
They are Nurul Alam, 30, Ziaur Rahman, 22, Sayedul Alam, 18, Abdul Hakim, 20 and Zafar, 20.
Acting on a tip-off, law enforcers from Soroi police camp arrested the five while they were looking for a shelter at the village.
Police said the five are residents of Akiyab under Buchdong Police Station of Myanmar. They were yesterday produced in the Judicial Magistrate's Court that sent them to jail
Meanwhile, security forces have started combing operation in Roangchari upazila and its surrounding areas to rescue a construction labourer who was abducted by armed miscreants on Tuesday night.
Local sources said a gang of miscreants picked up two labourers--Alam Majhi, 40, and Shabbir, 29from Roangchari at around 11:30pm. They later released Shabbir and took Alam to an unknown place.
Sources said armed gangs introducing themselves as members of Democratic Party of Arakan are engaged in criminal activities, including extortion and kidnapping, in south-eastern part of Roangchhari upazila and bordering areas of Ruma and Thanchi upazilas.
