13 War Crime Cases in 75 Days

Only one out of 125 accused held in Khulna

Only one out of 125 accused was arrested in connection with 13 cases recorded in the last 75 days with four police stations of Khulna district for killing freedom fighters and looting their houses during Liberation War in 1971. According to Police Superintendent Md Shamsuddin, investigations into all these 13 cases against war criminals are going on. Complainants filed petition cases with the courts concerned naming 125 alleged collaborators of Pakistani occupation forces as accused of killing freedom fighters and later dumping their bodies during the war. After hearing on the petitions, the courts ordered the police stations concerned to record cases after proper investigation into the allegations. Afterwards, eight cases were recorded with Batiaghata Police Station, two with Dumuria Police Station, two with Dakop Police Station and one was with Phultala Police Station of the district. Ten of the 13 petition cases were filed with the Court of Senior Judical Magistrate Rozina Akther while the rest with two other courts. The arrestee, Gaffar Morol of Birat village under Batiaghata upazila, is now in Khulna jail. He recently gave a statement to the court, confessing to his role as collaborators during the War of Independence. Meanwhile, Seven alleged rajakars have been sued for killing a freedom fighter in Kashiani of Gopalganj district in 1971. Sultan Ahmed, Son of a martyred freedom fighter Abdus Salam Miah, filed the case with Gopalganj Judicial Magistrate's Court accusing seven rajakars of killing his father, according to a correspondent. The accused are Solaiman Miah, Hares Sheikh, Chona Miah, Kheyal Uddin Mollah, Siddiqur Rahman and Moni Miah. The complainant said the accused picked up his father at gunpoint from in front of Kashiani Ramdia post office, took him to Gopalganj camp of Pakistani occupation forces and killed him.
