One killed, 50 hurt in clash

One person was killed and at least 50 people were injured in a clash yesterday between two rival groups at Shimrail village under Mahari union of Kasba upazila. Bachchu Mia, 45, of Sarker Bari at Shimrail village died when Alam group and Mustafiz group locked in a clash following an altercation between Karid Mia and Nannu Mia of the two groups. The rivals used lethal weapons including spear. Bachchu died on the spot while condition of Kuddus Mia, 30, Piar Ahmed, 32, Salina Akter, 35, and Razia Begum, 55, was stated to be critical. Police later arrested Mehari Union Parishad chairman Md Alam in connection with the incident.
