Satkhira lawyers boycott court
Protest risky proceedings at dilapidated building
Members of Satkhira Bar Association yesterday boycotted court and formed a human chain near Satkhira Collectorate demanding immediate shifting of four trial courts from a dilapidated building which was declared abandoned by the Public Works Department (PWD) in 1986.
They also held a rally with bar association president Advocate Rabiul Islam Khan in the chair. Speakers said both lawyers and litigants risk lives at four courts of the abandoned building.
They vowed to continue agitation programme till fulfillment of their demand. Apart from court boycott, they will again form a human chain, hold a rally today followed by a press conference at the Collectorate building.
Earlier, three people including a lawyer were injured as a portion of roof of the building collapsed on June 21. Soon after the incident, the lawyers decided to boycott courts if their demands are not met within seven days of the incident.
