<i>Hospital staff 'protest' action against offence</i>

Employees of Bogra Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital yesterday observed two-hour work stoppage after hospital Director Brig Gen Shafiqul Islam took action against an employee for playing trick on a patient to send him to a private clinic. A patient came to the hospital for treatment yesterday morning when Enamul, a fourth class employee of the hospital, gave him the visiting card of a private clinic and told him to there. As the incident came to the knowledge of the hospital director, he issued show cause notice on the employee and changed his duty station. Protesting the matter, the hospital employees gathered and started work stoppage at 8:00am yesterday. They also brought out a procession and held a rally on the hospital premises to protest what they said 'torture' on the employee. The hospital employees resumed their work when Assistant Professor Rezaul Alam Jewel negotiated a settlement between the two sides after about two hours. Contacted, Brig Gen Shafiqul Islam said action was taken against an employee as he tried to take a hospital patient to an outside clinic, violating hospital rules.
