Fresh probe demanded
Speakers at a condolence meeting here yesterday demanded fresh investigation into the killing of journalist Shamsur Rahman.
Paying rich tribute to the memory of the journalist marking his 9th death anniversary, they also urged the government to arrest and punish those who were involved in the killing.
In his speech, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddiqui said Shamsur Rahman never compromised with what he thought positive. He was killed for this reason, Prof Siddiqui added.
Prof Abdus Sattar, VC of Jessore University of Science and Technology, journalist Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Prof Afsar Ali, former principal of Jessore MM College, Prof Amirul Alam Khan, controller of examinations of Jessore Education Board, Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, managing editor of BSS, and Omar Faruk, general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), among others, spoke.
Jessore Union of Jour-nalists organised the condolence meeting at Jessore Press Club. The family of the slain journalist and Jessore Press Club also arranged different programmes on the occasion of Shamsur Rahman's death anniversary.
The programmes included doa mahfil, condolence meetings, procession and placing of wreaths at the grave of the journalist.
