Cheated job seekers agitate

Staff Correspondent, Bogra
A large number of cheated job seekers yesterday formed a human chain at Satmatha in Bogra town demanding removal of the Bogra deputy commissioner (DC) for submission of a 'false enquiry report' in favour of Md Abdul Mannan Sarker, former chairman of Science and Information Technology (SIT) Foundation. Talking to this correspondent over cell phone yesterday, Bogra DC Md Iftekharul Islam Khan, however, said a magistrate prepared the enquiry report on the basis of proper documents and investigations. Md Abdul Mannan Sarker, also a suspended director of National Academy for Computer Training and Research (NACTAR) under the Ministry of Education, faces at least 13 criminal cases, cheated job seekers said. According to case documents, Mannan Sarker, his son Rawshan Kamal Shahin and their accomplices cheated about 4,000 people after taking Tk 12 crore as deposit money assuring them jobs in the NGO in last year. Md Mushtaq Zamal, convener of the Association of Cheated Officials and Employees of SIT Foundation, Bogra, alleged that many documents against Md Abdul Mannan Sarker, which were shown before the investigation team, were not included in the reports. “I gave Tk 1,25,000 as deposit money to the SIT Foundation officials for the post of program organiser,” one Rina Parveen told local journalists. “Like other employees, I gave Tk 10,000 as deposit money for the post of field officer. The money was deposited to the NGO office through Md Abdus Samad, joint director of Bangladesh Bank's Bogra branch,” said Rezina Akter, a woman employee of the NGO. General manager of the branch said he informed higher authorities of Bangladesh Bank of the matter after receiving a complaint from Rezina Akter a few months ago.
