1 killed, 7 hurt as rival AL men clash
One person was killed and seven others were injured in a clash between two factions of local Awami League at Parikhupi village under Sharsa upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Shafiur Rahman, 35, son of Noor Mohammed of the village.
Police and locals said the two factions--one led by Abdus Salam and the other by Shamsur Rahman--clashed over establishing supremacy in the area at around 10:00am.
They used lethal weapons and hurled bombs at each other during the clash, leaving eight people from both sides injured.
Seriously injured Shafiur of Salam group was rushed to Sharsa Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries soon after admission. Mafizul, Nazrul and Abdul Wahab of Shamsur Rahman group were admitted to Jessore General Hospital. Later, Wahab was sent to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.
The four other injured are undergoing treatment at Sharsa health complex. Salam group filed a murder case with Sharsa Police Station. No case was filed by Shamsur Rahman group as of filing of this report at 7:00pm yesterday.
