General students of Gafargoan Government College yesterday boycotted their classes and took out a procession at the upazila headquarters protesting attack on a teacher of the college by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men on Friday. They later held a rally on the campus demanding arrest of the attackers within the next 48 hours. Otherwise, they threatened to launch a tougher agitation programme. At around 12:30pm on Friday, BCL men and some outsiders assaulted Md Kamal Uddin, associate professor of English department, as the teacher, the BCL men said, delayed in opening the college gate through which local MP Captain (retd) Giasuddin Ahmed was due to attend a mosque adjacent to the college to offer Juma prayers. Students at other educational institutions in and outside the upazila headquarters also brought out processions protesting the attack on college teacher Kamal Uddin. An emergency staff meeting was held at the college auditorium yesterday with Principal Md Aynul Haque in the chair. The meeting decided to go for legal actions against the attackers, college sources said.
