3 killed as bus hits CNG auto-rickshaw in Sirajganj

Three people were killed when a bus rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka–Rajshahi highway in Sirajganj’s Solonga area this evening.

The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately, police said.

Locals said the auto-rickshaw, carrying two passengers, was heading towards Tarash from the Hatikumrul area.

A speeding bus hit it from behind when the three-wheeler reached close to the Rab-12 office in Solonga around 6:30pm, causing the auto-rickshaw to overturn on the highway.

The driver of the auto-rickshaw and its two passengers were critically injured.

They were taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident.

He said police rushed to the spot after receiving the information and recovered the bodies.

Efforts are underway to identify the victims, the OC added.
