Two motorcycle riders, both recent returnees from abroad, were killed after a truck ran them over in Brahmanbaria’s Ashuganj this afternoon.

The accident occurred in the Sonarampur area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, said Abu Taher, officer-in-charge of Brahmanbaria Khatihata Highway Police Station.

The deceased were identified as Shah Alam and Ziarul, both residents of Panishwar village in Sarail upazila. Ziarul had returned from Saudi Arabia, while Shah Alam had recently come back from UAE.

According to police and locals, the two were travelling to Ashuganj by motorcycle from Panishwar in the afternoon when a Dhaka-bound truck heading towards Sylhet hit and crushed the motorcycle in the opposite lane, leaving both dead on the spot.

Police later recovered the bodies from the scene.

According to the OC, the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.

“The truck has been seized, and the bodies were handed over to the families after legal procedures,” he added.
