Seven killed in road accidents across three districts in 24 hours
Seven people were killed in separate road accidents in Bagerhat, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh in the last 24 hours.
In Bagerhat, three men died after a motorcycle collided head-on with a truck on the Khulna-Mongla highway at Bhatta Balighata in the Chulkathi area around 9:30am today.
Katakhali Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jafar Ahmed said the motorcycle, carrying three people, was travelling towards Khulna from Mongla when it crashed into an oncoming truck.
One victim died on the spot, while two others were declared dead at Bagerhat 250-bed Hospital after being rescued in critical condition by fire service personnel.
One of the deceased was identified as Abdul Kader of Fakirhat upazila; identities of the other two remain unknown, said police.
Meanwhile, in Thakurgaon, two motorcyclists were killed after their bike hit a road divider on the Thakurgaon town–Railway Station Road in Munshirhat area around 6:00am today.
Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station OC Munir Hossain said the rider lost control of the motorcycle while heading towards town. One died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries at Thakurgaon General Hospital.
The deceased were identified as Rittik Roy, 25, and his friend Ashik Hasan, 24, from Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
In a separate incident in Panchagarh, Papri Rani Roy, 6, was killed after a sand-laden truck hit her while she was crossing the Boda–Debiganj highway in Sonapata-Pachkol area at around 7:00pm yesterday.
The truck driver and helper fled the scene. Locals later set the vehicle on fire before firefighters brought the blaze under control.
In another accident in Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh at around 4:00pm yesterday, a tractor overturned in Dharagach village, killing a 21-year-old worker named Anwar Hossain trapped underneath.
Debiganj Police Station OC Selim Malik and Tetulia Model Police Station OC Laisur Rahman confirmed the incidents.
