Sylhet rail communication restored five hours after wagon derailment
Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country resumed tonight, five hours after a bogie of an oil-laden wagon derailed inside Lawachara National Park in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar.
Train services on the Sylhet route resumed around 8:30pm after the derailed wagon was salvaged from the Lawachara forest area.
The incident occurred around 3:30pm in the Lawachara forest stretch between Bhanugachh and Sreemangal railway stations.
Railway officials said the wagon had already unloaded its oil cargo in Sylhet and was empty at the time of the accident. As a result, no major damage was reported.
A rescue train later reached the spot and recovered the derailed wagon after nearly five hours of operation using hydraulic equipment. The wagon was then sent towards Akhaura.
Shamsernagar Railway Station Master Rajat Kumar Roy confirmed that train movement on the Sylhet-Dhaka and Sylhet-Chattogram routes returned to normal following the recovery operation.
He also said the stranded Jayantika Express resumed its journey after rail communication was restored.
