Two killed in head-on motorcycle collision in Faridpur

Two pillion riders were injured in the crash on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Bhanga

Two motorcyclists were killed and two pillion riders injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila last night.

The victims are Saiful Molla, 25, of Gangadardi area in Bhanga upazila, and Al Imran Sharif, 28, of Rupatali Housing area in Barishal Sadar upazila, said Md Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police.

Quoting locals, the OC said the crash took place around 10:30pm on the Dhaka-Barishal highway under Chumurdi union of the upazila.

According to police, Imran was travelling from Dhaka to his home in Barishal Sadar with a passenger on his motorcycle during the Eid vacation.

When he reached the Purba Sadardi bus stand area, his motorcycle collided head-on with another bike ridden by Saiful, who was heading towards Bhanga upazila headquarters with a passenger.

The two riders died on the spot, while the two passengers suffered injuries. The injured were rescued and taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

The bodies were kept at the highway police station and the victims’ relatives were informed.

“We have primarily learned that both motorcycles were travelling at high speed,” the OC said, adding that the two damaged motorcycles had also been taken to the police station.
