2 minors drown in Manikganj river

Two minor cousins drowned in a river in Gilondo village of Manikganj Sadar upazila today.

They are Jamil Hossain, and Junaid Hossain, of Gilondo village -- both aged two-and-a-half-years old, said Manikganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kamal Hossain Hossain.

According to police and local sources, the two children went to a field on the banks of Kaliganga river accompanying their grandmother at around 8:30am.

At one point, the two fell into the river and drowned.

Around 9:00am, local people saw their bodies floating on the river.

They rescued the duo and took them to a local hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

The OC said the families of the deceased applied to the additional district magistrate to receive the bodies without autopsy. "Accordingly, the bodies of the victims have been handed over without autopsy."
