Construction worker dies after iron pipe falls on his head in Dhaka's Moghbazar

A 20-year-old construction worker was killed after an iron pipe fell on his head from an under-construction building in Dhaka’s Moghbazar this afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Taijul Islam, was working as a helper to a mason at the 13-storey building.

The incident occurred around 12:45 pm while Taijul was working with sand on one side of the building’s ground level.

Suddenly, an iron pipe fell from the fifth floor, hitting him on the head and causing him to collapse on the spot, said his coworker Altaf Hossain.

He was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead around 1:30pm.

Inspector Md Farouk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
