Man killed, 4 injured as auto-rickshaw crashes into bus in Noakhali

A man was killed and four others, including the driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, were injured as the vehicle crashed into a bus in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila today.

The accident took place around 12:00pm in Eklashpur on the Maijdee-Choumuhani regional highway, said Chandraganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan.

The deceased, identified as Dhan Ranjan Dey, 55, of Alipur village in Choumuhani municipality, was a passenger of the auto-rickshaw.

According to police and local sources, the auto-rickshaw was en route to the district town with passengers onboard around 11:15am. When the vehicle reached the Eklashpur area, it lost control while making way for another auto-rickshaw and subsequently rammed into the back of a bus.

Five people, including Dhan Ranjan, were critically injured in the incident. He was rushed to 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The OC said, on information, they have visited the site.

"The auto-rickshaw involved in the accident has been seized. Legal action will be taken after investigating the matter," he added.
