'Botched C-section' at Central Hospital: Woman died from excessive bleeding
Excessive bleeding caused the death of a woman who went through a C-section surgery at the Central Hospital in Dhaka, said Prof Dr Mokhlesur Rahman, head of the forensic department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, today.
Mahbuba Akter Akhi, 25, died at LabAid Hospital yesterday, eight days after the operation on June 10. Her newborn also died during it.
Her body was sent to DMC for autopsy.
"Primarily we found that Mahbuba died due to excessive bleeding. We will share the final report after the forensic test soon," he said.
Following the death of Mahbuba's baby, her husband Yakub Ali Sumon filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on June 14, bringing allegations of botched C-section and fraud against the doctors and the hospital concerned.
Police arrested two physicians who were sent to jail by a Dhaka court the next day.
On June 16, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) shut down the operating theatre and the Intensive Care Unit of Central Hospital as their services were not satisfactory.
DGHS also instructed the hospital authority to bear all treatment costs and compensate the family as per law.
