Chhoto Monir ‘ordered’ Nixon’s killing: suspect
Ruling Awami League lawmaker Tanvir Hasan (Chhoto Monir) threatened several men into killing his party rival Aminul Islam Talukder Nixon in Tangail in 2020, said an accused of the murder case.
In a video message that has now gone viral on social media, accused named Suman, who is now in jail, is seen saying that Monir had threatened to kill him and several others unless they kill Nixon.
The Daily Star could not independently verify the authenticity of the footage.
College teacher Nixon, 48, a local leader of the AL in Gopalpur upazila of Tangail, was stabbed to death on August 1, 2020, a day before Eid.
His younger brother Abdullah Al Mamun Talukder later filed a murder case against five named and several unnamed people with Dhanbari Police Station.
One of the accused, Sumon, confessed to his involvement in the killing. Police later pressed charges against eight people.
But Nixon's family members made a "no confidence" claim to the court, saying that the names of the masterminds were dropped from the chargesheet.
Later, the Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted a similar probe report to the court. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is now investigating the case.
Asked about the matter, Muhammad Siraj Amin, superintendent of police (SP) of PBI in Tangail, said, "The investigation remains in primary stages."
Contacted, Monir said he had no idea who Sumon was, and he had never seen him before.
"It might be a conspiracy to tarnish my image," he claimed.
