Cop jailed for life in narcotics case

A Thakurgaon court today sentenced two people, including a police sub-inspector, to life imprisonment in a 2019 narcotics case.

The convicts are former Pirganj Police Station SI Helal Uddin Pramanik, 42, and Manik Das, 35, of Thakurgaon Sadar, reports our local correspondent citing court sources.

District and Sessions Judge Md Mamunur Rashid handed down the verdict in the presence of Helal while Manik was absconding.

The court also fined the duo Tk 12 lakh each, which they must pay or face another year in prison.

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each in another section of the case.

According to the prosecution, a detective branch (DB) of police conducted a drive in the Old Dak Bangalow area in Pirganj upazila and recovered 8,000 yaba pills and 2kg of ganja from their possession on June 23 in 2019.
