Inu calls case against him ‘ghostly,’ alleges political vengeance at ICT-2
Hasanul Haq Inu, president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), told the International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) today that he is the victim of "political vengeance", asserting the case against him is a "ghost case".
He made the remarks when the tribunal asked whether he pleaded guilty or not during the charge-framing proceedings against him.
"I am completely innocent … After Allah, it is you who can ensure justice," he said.
The tribunal today indicted Inu for crimes against humanity for allegedly instigating, abetting, and aiding ruling party leaders and law enforcement agencies in killing unarmed protesters during last year's July uprising.
In his defence, Inu told the tribunal that he did not hear all the allegations read out and asked for a copy of the charge sheet. He added that he had been informed by his legal team that his application to dismiss the case had been rejected.
He insisted the cases were politically motivated, referencing "ghost cases" and noting he faced some 60 cases in CMM court.
Alongside Inu, ICT-2 also framed charges against Mahbubul Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of the Awami League and three other local Awami League leaders from Kushtia in the same case.
