Star Digital Report

Police detained a youth early today for allegedly attempting to rape a housewife in Mymensingh's Gafargoan upazila Friday night.

The detainee was identified Sumon, 30, of Dubasia village in Gafargoan, reports our Mymensingh correspondent quoting police.

Quoting the complaint filed by the victim, Raju Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Pagla Police Station in Gafargoan, said the woman, a mother of a two-year-old son, used to live alone at home as her husband worked in Narayanganj.

When the victim went to sleep, her neighbours, Sumon Mia, 30, Tanvir Ahmed, 28, and Abdul Jalil, 35, entered the house and tried to rape her around 11:30pm on Friday. Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot and the accused fled the scene.

Later, the woman informed her family members and lodged a complaint with the police station on Monday night accusing Sumon, Tanvir, and Jalil, said the OC.

Police already detained Sumon from the locality early today and he was being interrogated at the police station as of filing this report.

Police have started investigation into the allegations. Drives are on to arrest the two other accused, said the OC.
