Raising age ceiling of govt job: 9 detained during demo

Police today detained nine people who were part of a demonstration in the capital's Shahbagh demanding the extension of age limit to apply for government jobs.

Shahbagh police said they had to charge batons as the protesters were blockading the busy road for around six hours since the afternoon.

"At least twenty of my colleagues were injured and nine were detained from Shahbagh after police charged batons on us," said Jerin Afrin, joint convener of Chakrite Abedoner Boyosh Shima 35 Chai Somonnoy Parishad.

The platform has been demanding the age limit extension for government jobs from 30 to 35 years.

The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment, she said.

Police detained Shariful Hasan Shuvo, convener of the platform, Abdur Rahman, Arif Hossain, Abu Bakker Siddique, Rokon Hossain, Tasnimul Hasan, Rakibul Hasan, Mamunur Rashid Ratan and Jakir Hossain, she added.
