Rohingya youth shot dead inside camp
A Rohingya youth was shot dead in a Cox's Bazar refugee camp yesterday during a gunfight between the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO), police said.
Iman Hossain, 18, son of Siraj Hossain of camp 10 in Ukhiya, was a member of the RSO, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Saifuzzaman, second in command (2IC) of 14 Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
He was shot at point-blank range during the gunfight that took place around 10:00am at camp 8 in Ukhiya, said the police official.
Iman was taken to an NGO-run hospital in the camp, where he was declared dead. His body was sent to Cox's Bazar General Hospital for autopsy, he added.
Just two days ago, Noor Hossain Bhutto, 42, a sub-Majhi (community leader) of 9D block of camp 2 under the same upazila, was shot dead in an attack launched by a group of 12-14 criminals.
According to police and Rohingya leaders, at least 49 Rohingyas including 16 Majhi, 11 ARSA members and a volunteer were killed in clashes or gunfights in the last six months in the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar.
