The Narayanganj City Corporation election is one of the best held during the tenure of the current Election Commission, said Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar yesterday.

Ruling Awami League candidate Khan Ahmed Shuvo has won the by-elections in Tangail (Mirzapur) constituency.

The voter turnout stood at around 50 percent in the Narayanganj City Corporation election held today, said Election Commission Secretary Humayun Kabir Khandaker.

The Tangail-7 by-polls saw a low voter turnout with only 35 percent votes cast today, said Assistant Returning Officer Kamrul Hasan.

Narayanganj goes to polls today to pick its mayor and 36 councillors, in an election that can be expected to be a departure from the recent violence-ridden voting for Union Parishad seats.
