All drains under DNCC must be cleaned by March 15: Atiqul

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor M Atiqul Islam yesterday instructed the concerned department to clean all drains of his areas by March 15.                

"All the drains under our city corporation must have to be cleaned by March 15," he told a meeting on waterlogging held in the hall room of Gulshan-2 Nagar Bhaban, said a press release.

"A total of 10 rapid action teams will be formed for the 10 regions of the DNCC, which would take effective measures to solve the problems in the region as soon as possible," he said.

He said 42 dead spots have been identified for the rescue of canals under the DNCC, where earlier there were canals but now there are no more.

"The rescue and cleaning activities of the canals will continue with the help of people," he added.

"DNCC is working diligently with short, medium and long term plans to control water logging and pollution in the city," said the mayor.

Dhaka city should be made a livable, healthy, vibrant and modern city by making it pollution-free and free of illegal land grabbing, added Atiqul.

DNCC CEO Md Selim Reza, Chief Engineer Brig GenMuhammad Amirul Islam, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore SM Sharif-ul Islam attended the meeting, among others.
