Ahead of the 13th Parliamentary Election, the government has renewed its offer of cash rewards for recovering police weapons and ammunition looted during last year's July Uprising.

According to a press release issued today by the Police Headquarters (PHQ), individuals who help trace or return the missing arms and ammunition will receive financial rewards.

The rewards have been set at Tk 5 lakh for each light machine gun (LMG), Tk 1.5 lakh for each submachine gun (SMG), Tk 1 lakh for each Chinese-made rifle, and Tk 50,000 for each pistol or shotgun.

Besides, each recovered bullet will carry a reward of Tk 500.

The release urged people with information about the looted weapons to contact their nearest police station, assuring that the identities of informants will be kept strictly confidential.

On August 25 this year, Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced rewards for information leading to the recovery of firearms looted during the July uprising, with the highest amount of Tk 5 lakh for the recovery of an LMG.

The reward amount was the same as announced today.
