SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh today launched a three-year project to provide skills training and employment support to around 12,000 youths in Khulna and Gazipur.

The project, titled “Jagoron: Transforming Futures through Skilled and Empowered Youth”, is being jointly implemented by SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh and Care Bangladesh, with funding from SOS Children’s Villages Worldwide.

It will target youths aged 18 to 35, with at least 50 percent female participation, focusing mainly on vulnerable and unemployed young people, according to a press release.

“The Jagoron project is a timely and strategic initiative aligned with the government’s vision to harness the potential of our youth,” State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque said at the launch.

“By investing in skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship, we are building a stronger, more resilient Bangladesh,” he said.

The project aims to address barriers such as lack of job-ready skills, limited access to employment, weak links with employers, and financial and social constraints.

Participants will receive market-driven technical, digital and green skills training, along with support for employment, entrepreneurship and apprenticeships.

Nasheeba Selim, principal social development officer for gender at ADB’s Bangladesh Resident Mission, said equipping youths with market-relevant skills beyond education is critical.

Dr Md Enamul Haque, national director of SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh, said, “By bridging the gap between skills, opportunities, and market demands, we aim to empower young people to become self-reliant.”

Ram Das, country director of Care Bangladesh, said the initiative aims to connect talent with opportunities.

The two-day inauguration will conclude with the Jagoron Youth Carnival, featuring sessions and youth engagement activities.

Md Masud Rana, deputy national director of SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh, also spoke at the programme.Top of Form
