BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today said that a conspiracy is underway to influence the election by collecting voters’ personal information through door-to-door visits.

“Let me share another update about the conspiracy to engineer the election. Their people are going door to door, collecting NID numbers. Have you heard about this?” Tarique said without mentioning any particular party.

“They go and collect mobile numbers, especially the mobile numbers of mothers and sisters. Have you heard about this? They say they will establish the rule of honest people. They are collecting bKash numbers and phone numbers, saying they will send money through bKash -- this is their plan,” he added.

Tarique was speaking this evening at the proposed upazila parishad field in Shayestaganj, Habiganj.

“Many have already been caught. These incidents have been reported in newspapers. Have you seen these reports? Those who give money to people before the election and commit dishonest acts -- how will they establish the rule of honest people? Can they? They cannot,” the BNP chairman said.

“Those who act dishonestly before the election can never do honest work, even if they come to power. Can they? They cannot,” he added.

Tarique also said, “In this country, only Shaheed Zia and Khaleda Zia have proven how corruption can be controlled. This is not our claim. This is what international organisations say, which examine corruption levels in different countries in various ways.”
