The floods wreaking havoc in the country’s northern and north-eastern districts may worsen as water levels in already overflowing rivers could continue to rise over the next two days, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre. 

Flood situation worsened in the northern districts yesterday as all major rivers were flowing above the danger mark.

Bangladesh's northern and central regions are expected to face brief flooding, as water levels in the Jamuna and Teesta rivers are rising steadily.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to visit the flood-affected areas in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona on Tuesday (June 21, 2022).

The flood situation in the Sylhet region may not get better at least for the next couple of days as more water is heading toward the country from upstream due to record rainfall in India’s Meghalaya, Assam and Tripura states.

Navy, air force and coast guard personnel yesterday joined the rescue and relief efforts for the flood victims in Sylhet and its adjacent areas.

Due to the flooding of water at Kumargaon 133/32 KV grid sub-station in Sylhet, power lines were cut off all over Sylhet from 12:30 pm today (June 18, 2022).

Health Minister Zahid Maleque today (June 18, 2022) said a total of 140 medical teams were formed for the treatment of flood affected people across the country.
