The Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) has formed a 5-member inquiry committee to investigate the reason behind the grid failure yesterday (October 4, 2022) that triggered a countrywide blackout for hours.

The country yesterday suffered the worst power outage in eight years, which, according to officials, was triggered by a trip at a substation in Ghorashal.

The failure of the national power grid caused disruptions to telecommunication and internet services in parts of the country yesterday.

At least 90% power supply was restored across Bangladesh after nearly seven hours of blackout following the national power grid failure today (October 4, 2022).  

Some parts of the country including the capital have been witnessing blackout since this afternoon (October 4, 2022) due to the national grid line failure. Below are some photos of how commuters, shop keepers and patients in the hospitals have been suffering due to the power outage.

Power supply was restored in some parts of Dhaka city under Maniknagar and Hasnabad grid substations and also a good number of districts under Sylhet, Chattogram and Mymensingh at 7pm. But supply could not be restored in the areas under Ulon grid substations in Dhaka.

About 20-25 percent electricity was restored after four hours of power outage, said a spokesperson of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh.

Patients in several hospitals in Dhaka and Chattogram cities have been suffering as many parts of the country have been experiencing power outage since this afternoon.

After the national grid line failure this afternoon, people from residential and other complexes rushed to nearby petrol pumps to purchase fuel for powering their generators.

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has urged the people of the country to keep patience “as the power supply will be restored across the country as soon as possible”.

Power supply to all areas of Dhaka city will be restored by 8pm today (October 4, 2022).
