Law and order in a sad plight
Every day reports of unnatural and violent deaths caused by gunshot, stabbing, strangulation, beating etc. reach us. Sometimes victims' body parts are found scattered, or in a heap. It seems that death is lurking everywhere. No one is safe anywhere… at homes, work places or in the streets.
On October 5, 2013 a ticket booking clerk of Kamalapur Railway Station was murdered in the cash room of the station and Tk 17 lakh was looted. We learned that a temporary camp of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) was just 10 yards from the crime scene and multiple layers of security at the cash room were found undamaged. How could this sort of crime happen at such a secure place?
On October 6, 2013 an ATM booth security guard of Dutch-Bangla Bank was hacked to death at Mohammadpur area of Dhaka. How unfortunate! Who will ensure the security of the security guards? When law and order are completely non-existent, home minister MK Alamgir is bragging that it is better than ever before. The audacity of his claim has taken us aback.
