Benazir granted bail in UAE but barred from leaving country: Salahuddin
Former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed has been granted bail by a court in the United Arab Emirates on the condition that he remain in the country, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said today.
“I have been informed that former IGP Benazir Ahmed was granted bail on the condition that he not leave the UAE. However, the full terms of the bail are not yet known. I have asked the relevant authorities to obtain a certified copy of the order detailing the conditions,” he told reporters in Rajshahi.
The minister said the government had earlier appointed a law firm in the UAE and instructed it to pursue the cancellation of Benazir's bail.
According to sources familiar with the matter, a UAE court granted Benazir bail last Thursday.
Benazir was arrested in Dubai in June following an Interpol Red Notice issued at Bangladesh's request.
