Dipu Moni granted 12-hour parole to attend husband Tawfique Nawaz’s funeral
Former minister Dr Dipu Moni, a leader of the Awami League whose activities remain banned, will be released on parole from Munshiganj District Jail tomorrow to attend the funeral of her husband, Tawfique Nawaz, who died last night.
She will be released at 6:00am and remain on parole until 6:00pm, Additional District Magistrate Md Rezaul Karim told local journalists.
Earlier, Dipu Moni's daughter, Tani Dipabali, submitted an application to the district commissioner seeking parole for her mother.
Dipu Moni's lawyer, Gazi Faisal Islam said Tani Dipabali entered the prison to meet her mother this afternoon.
After speaking with her, she came out and applied for four days' parole for Dipu Moni.
Gazi Faisal said that after her release on parole tomorrow morning, Dipu Moni will see her husband's body at their home in Dhaka’s Kalabagan. His janaza will then be held at Azad Mosque, followed by his burial at Banani Graveyard.
Tawfique Nawaz died at around 10:30pm last night while undergoing treatment at Continental Hospital in Gulshan, Dhaka. He was 76.
A Supreme Court lawyer by profession, Tawfique Nawaz had been suffering from kidney and liver complications for a long time.
