Minibus driver detained after hitting Shama Obaed’s car in Dhaka’s Banani

A minibus driver has been detained after his vehicle hit the car carrying State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed in Dhaka's Banani area.

The arrestee was identified as Omar Faruk, 25.

Mahady Hasan, inspector (investigation) of Banani Police Station, told The Daily Star that the state minister's vehicle was damaged when a minibus hit it under the Chairman Bari footbridge around 10:00 pm last night.

Police have seized the minibus.

Meanwhile, the state minister's gunman has filed a case against the driver under the Road Transport Act with Banani Police Station, the inspector added.

He said the gunman sustained injuries and received first aid at Kurmitola General Hospital.

According to the case statement, Shama was also injured in the incident. However, she opted to consult her personal physician, instead of seeking treatment at a hospital.
