I think it is a bit more than that. Her arrogance and overconfidence has crossed all limits in the post 2009 era. She thinks if she is steadfast enough, she can conquer mountains. She is making it a competition between herself and Khaleda as far as who can be more unbending. She will eventually go down at great costs to the nation.

We often hear claim that the election system that are being followed in Western countries will be followed in the forthcoming national election in Bangladesh. But will it really be followed? What puzzles a layman like me is: is not an election held for a parliamentary seat when that particular seat is vacant? If I am correct, then how can there be an election for a parliamentary seat which is not vacant? Will someone enlighten me, please, on this subject?

And the weird part of it is that the government is doing so in the name of peace and democracy.

Mr. Anam, a zillion thanks to you for this eloquent and cogent argument. My hunch is that perhaps the AL has some hidden agenda that include manipulating the elections and stay in power. That is why she doesn't want the CTG to run the show again. Even if we concede that she has a genuine change of heart to ensure fair elections under her watch, she has close to zero credibility on that account.

It is very easy to comprehend the actions of Bangladeshi political leaders. These people are not held accountable for their actions even in the election time.

Mr. Anam has rightly expressed the growing feelings of apprehension among all conscious sections of society about whether the next election would be held in due time or not. If not, certainly a great deal of violence and killings would occur which would inevitably push the country into uncertainty and PM herself would be held responsible that. Is our PM not able to comprehend the gravity of the matter?

The learned editor may well know that this is 2013 and not 1994 and that the system of CTG has meanwhile become almost obsolete. And it is incompatible with the basic concept of democracy.
