Old technology coming back

Old technology coming back

This refers to the report, "Hold for the president" (March 18). Landline telephones are still favourites with the heads of states of practically all the nations in these days of mobile phones. Watchers of television news channels reporting on Ukraine crisis might have noticed that the US president was talking to the Russian president using the old and trusted landline phone and not mobile phone. As it is said, old is gold. Land phones are less susceptible to tapping and surveillance, compared to the mobile phones. These are also free from the threat of viruses. In video door phones, only landline phones can be used and not mobile phones.
Even the old electronic typewriters are making a comeback in Russia after the controversial internet surveillance by the US-based National Security Agency. It may be recalled that he US whistleblower Edward Snowden brought this to light. The old gramophone record player is becoming popular with music lovers. Such is the hold of old technology.
