Chattogram City unit BNP President Dr Shahadat Hossain was released from the central jail of the port city today two and half months after he was sent to the jail in 12 cases.

Shahadat walked out of the jail around 6:30pm after the jail authority received bail orders from the HC, Kamal Hossain, superintendent of the jail, told our Chattogram staff correspondent.

“Shahadat secured bail from the High Court in 12 different cases including sabotage and other criminal charges lodged with different police stations in the port city before the December 30 national election, defence lawyer Kamrul Islam Sazzad said.

Shahadat was arrested by detectives in Dhaka when he was going to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court to visit detained BNP leaders and activists on November 7 last year.

Later, he was brought to Chattogram and shown arrested in a case filed with Kotwali Police Station on October 29 on charge of subversive activities. Except this, the BNP leader has been shown arrested in more 11 cases.

Shahadat took part in the 11th parliamentary from Chattogram-9 (Kotwali) parliamentary constituency with BNP’s electoral symbol “Sheaf of Paddy” against Awami League nominated candidate Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, but failed to secure victory in the polls.
