The students of Ruqayyah Hall padlocked the gates of all administrative rooms including the provost’s one since last night demanding the resignation of the hall provost and re-election to hall unions.

The girls of Ruqayyah Hall had earlier given a 24-hour ultimatum to the authorities demanding the same, said
Shrobona Shafique Dipti, one of the protesting students.

As the ultimatum ended last night, the students padlocked the gates around 11:00pm yesterday but no one has reached out to them yet, the students claimed.

No official hall activity will go on until a new provost is appointed, she said.

They demanded reelection under the new provost.

Meanwhile, the protesting Dhaka University students ended their “hunger strike until death” last night after the authorities assured them of listening to their complaints and making the Ducsu electoral process more transparent.

The development came after a group of DU teachers, including Pro VC Prof Muhammad Samad and Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani, met the students near the Raju Sculpture around 11:30pm.

Newly-elected Ducsu VP Nurul Haq Nur, GS Golam Rabbani, and AGS Md Saddam Hussain were present there.
