Protecting escalators from rain

I think the idea of installing escalators in Dhaka is very innovative. However, there are certain factors that must be taken care of. One of the most important factors is the maintenance. During the rainy season, water will wet the machinery and cause parts of the escalator to rust which will be the main cause for its erosion. The escalator equipment must be water-proof and a shade must be built over the stairs to protect it from rain. I hope this will be taken into account by the engineers. One more thing, all city escalators should be run on solar or recyclable energy during load-shedding.
