Rights of lovelorn children of divorced parents
This refers to the article," Viability of children's Court" (June 17). Children of estranged couples fighting bitter divorce battles, have to face courts. In such cases, hapless children are denied the love, affection and access to one of the parents by the other parent, who has the custody of the child. This is violation of human rights of children, an issue on which even the United Nations Convention on Human Rights of Children has not focused its attention.
Any act on children should duly consider this issue, but unfortunately, many nations do not have laws on shared parenting. There should be laws that can save children from denial of love, access and affection of one of the parents in case of divorced or estranged couples. Children are ruthlessly used as hostage by warring couples to settle scores with one another. Couples need to be put through counseling to stop this inhuman practice. The UK is planning to bring a law on shared parenting and also 'Cinderella Law' to prevent cruelty towards children.
