5th Convocation of SEU held 

5th Convocation of Southeast University (SEU) was held on February 6, 2016 at the International Convention City Bashundhara.

Md. Abdul Hamid, President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of SEU attended the convocation and conferred degree upon 5292 graduating students. Amir Hossain Amu, MP, Ministry of Industries addressed the convocation as special guest.

Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor, Bangladesh Bank delivered speech as the convocation speaker. Chairman, BOT, SEU Trust, Md. Rezaul Karim and VC of SEU Prof. Anwar Hossain also addressed the Convocation. 

Md. Aynul Islam of Computer Science and Engineering and Sumaya Akhter of Islamic Studies were awarded Chancellor Gold Medal for their educational achievement for the years of 2013 and 2014 respectively.

In the second session, Pro-VC of SEU Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury; Treasurer Prof. Meer Mobashsher Ali; Registrar Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, psc (retd.); Dean, School of Business Studies, Prof. Dr. AFM Mafizul Islam; Dean, School of Science & Engineering, Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan; Dean School of Arts & Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ali Rashid were present, while VC distributed gold medals and degree certificates to the graduating students. Among others, Members of BOT of SEU, educationists, teachers and officials of different universities and distinguished invited guests were present at the event.

Earth Club of NSU organise Champions of Earth 2 

The Earth Club of North South University hosted the Champions of Earth (COE) International, the grandest event on environment in the history of Bangladesh on January 29, 2016. It is a competition of environmental idea generation that not only confined to students from environmental science but also opened for all students from all universities, colleges and schools. This is the very first event on environment in Bangladesh by a university club which took place in such a grand scale where students from around the world took part.

The 7 finalist teams had to provide a presentation on the problems that they chose. Each team came up with a creative solution that could be highly achievable and the team with the best solution won the Champions Of Earth International, 2016 with a total prize money is Tk. 150,000 only. The winning team 'Team Dexters' was awarded the amount of BDT 80,000 where 1st runner-up team 'Pluto is Lost' was awarded BDT 40,000 and 2nd runner-up team 'Cereal Killers' was awarded BDT 30,000 respectively. 

M.A. Kashem, Chairman, NSU was the chief guest of the event where Prof. Dr. Gour Govinda Goswami, VC (in charge) was the special guest.

 

A day with difference for IUB Business School

January 29, 2016 will be remembered as a fun-filled unforgettable musing to all the faculty members and management staffs from School of Business, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). On the day, for the first time, School of Business, IUB arranged its 'Faculty Retreat' programme. It started off from IUB campus with an aim to reach The Base Camp, Gazipur where the programme was scheduled to be held. 

With a cheerful vibe, everyone settled down themselves in the Base Camp and got involved in gasping the scenic natural beauty of the venue. Soon faculty members and management staffs got into a gaming mood and started playing cricket, football, badminton dividing into different groups till they heard the call for jummah prayer. Meanwhile, some enjoyed cycling inside the vast open area of the Base Camp and some decided to utilise their cameras capturing the natural beauty around. After lunch, the IUB School of Business team saved their energy to have the best bit of the programme which was 'The Interactive and Group Game Session'. 

The game session ended up with a prize giving ceremony where Prof. Dr. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Dean, School of Business, IUB handed over the prizes to all the winners of the games. Prof. Dr. Ahmed also distributed memoirs to all the participants of the Faculty Retreat programme. The programme wrapped up with a smile on everyone's face leaving the Base Camp heading towards IUB campus. 

 

10 Years of ULAB Center for Sustainable Development

Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) celebrated one decade of establishment. The Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) was officially launched on 3rd February, 2006 as the first research center of ULAB. CSD is dedicated in interdisciplinary research with central notions to explore and document practices of sustainable development. CSD's research and academic initiatives attempt to contribute in addressing the ambiguities in knowledge world starting from people's livelihoods to sustainable development processes. 

Director of the CSD, Prof. Dr. Hamidul Huq informed that UN has declared Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. ULAB CSD was established in 2006. Therefore, ULAB CSD is the pioneer for sustainability research in Bangladesh. Dr. Huq also mentioned that 08 research projects is now going on, 15 research projects have already been completed. After the findings on those research projects, 31 papers and books has already been published in national and international journals.  

A newly published book of CSD namely “Gender in Aquaculture” was launched also at this celebration. University VC Prof. Imran Rahman, Members of BOT, distinguished guests from home and abroad and students joined that ceremony.

 

Orientation Programme Spring 2016 at UIU

United International University (UIU) has been playing a significant role in building knowledge –based society speakers told at the orientation programme of UIU, a two-day long program held on January 27-28, 2016 for the newly admitted students of spring 2016 trimester at the UIU Auditorium. Newly admitted students in the School of Business & Economics and School of Science and Engineering participated in the colourful orientation programme.

UIU VC Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, presided over the ceremonies while  Pro-VC, Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman; Dean, School of Business & Economics, Prof. Dr. Md. Musa; Dean, School of Science and Engineering, Prof. Dr. SM Lutful Kabir; Head, Dept. of Economics, Prof. Dr. Amirul Islam Chowdhury; MBA Program Coordinator, Dr. Badruzza Miya; BBA Program Director, Prof. Dr. Abu Saleh Md. Sohel-Uz-Zaman; EEE Head, Prof. Dr. Md. Raqibul Mostafa; CSE Head, Dr. Salekul Islam; Registrar, Prof. A.S.M.Salahuddin; Director of Students Affairs, Suman Ahmmed spoke on the programmes. Treasurer, Heads of different departments, teachers, guardians, students and the invited guests were present.
