Sarika's Homecoming

P
Prithu Amin

Three years ago not only was she one of the most prominent actresses on television, she was featured in most of the television commercials and dramas. Despite having a strong hold over the industry, the riveting lady stepped down from her throne and vanished from the small screen. Making people wonder and scratch their heads over this disappearance, Sarika Sabrin proved herself to be quite the elusive and mysterious woman. She is set to make a comeback and take back her rightful place. Star Showbiz brings you the story of Sarika, her past and her plans for the future.

We know you probably get this a lot, but why the sudden disappearance?

Well, I have started working again. Yes, I was missing from the screen for two and a half years and in fact I was busy with my family. If one has strong love and passion for something, it is quite impossible to try and stay away from it. This is true for me. My career was a big part of me and I just could not stay away from it much longer. And in these two and a half years, even when I was spending time with my family, I missed my work all the time.

Why did you take a break during the peak of your career?

This is one of the most frequent questions that I am getting these days. In truth, I do believe I was at the peak then but at the same time I felt family was also very important. So the reason behind taking a break was simply to settle down and give time to my family. I believe, along with professional life, maintaining a healthy family life is also crucial.

Modeling or Acting?

Oh, I love both of them and I enjoy them both equally. However, I think I am more attached to modeling because I started with it. I started acting since 2010, and the first time I acted, I fell in love with it (smiles). I know this because during my prolonged interval from work, 'camera', 'action' and 'pack up' were the three words which I missed the most.

Why did you not consider acting in cinemas?

I don't have an exact answer for this question. I have previously been offered work in movies and I still do get them. However, I feel that if there is no urge from the depth of one's heart, one should not pursue it. Nevertheless, I would like to state that Bangladeshi cinema has reached new heights and I really appreciate it. So, I may consider taking the opportunity of doing a movie but don't know which one or with whom.

Do you think there is a crisis in the media?

Well, yes, and I think it is very easy to overcome the crisis. The easiest and most obvious of all the solutions would be patriotism and love for your country. If we love our country, we will surely love the work of domestic artists. This is why I think everyone of us should watch or experience the domestic art, be it dramas, cinemas or commercials. This is because we are in dire need of appreciation of the audience.

What are your future plans?

It is not that I want a lot, there is no definite plan. I do not  have a set list of all the goals I want to reach, but I just want to keep on working the way I did. I just want the viewers to love me the way they did, and keep on loving me. And I hope to present them better work soon. That is pretty much it.

Do you have anything else you would like to say to the audience?

The reason that I am Sarika is solely because of the audience. Without them, I am nothing. They have loved me and cherished my work and that is the only cause of my stardom. Furthermore, I would like to add that in our country, we have a lot of talented actors, directors and individuals, all they need is the support from the people. And the problems revolving around the media are temporary. We will overcome it very soon.
