‘T20 World Cup is in Australia so need to play fast bowlers’

Bangladesh's new head coach Russell Domingo had a tough outing as the Tigers lost to Afghanistan in the one-off Test in what was his opening assignment. There was a debate about not having pacers in the lineup during the Test match and asked if pacers will feature in the T20 tri-nation series, Domingo said that the team needed to prepare for a World Cup in Australia and it will be important to play the pacers in order to prepare them.

"Absolutely. This is totally a different format and different condition and there is a World Cup in Australia so you need to play some fast bowlers.

"I think it's really important [to play fast bowlers]," he said.

Domingo's initial goal is to plan for the upcoming T20 World Cup and his two-year contract suggests that he will have to deliver performance in order to have an extension past the T20 World Cup. Tigers are not going to play ODIs till May 2020 next year. In between this time they will have quite a few T20s leading to the World Cup and Domingo was keen to make those matches count.

"There is lot of work to be done in Twenty20 and Test cricket –actually in all formats. But particularly in Test match format and Twenty20 format, these two formats require attention in next couple of months. Fortunately, there is no lot of one-day cricket and there is lot of Test and Twenty20 cricket so we can try to improve in those formats."

"I think there are 20 games between now and the World Cup. It counts a lot but it's not too many. This is where we start planning for the World Cup and start developing players who can perform at the World Cup and try and give them as much experience of playing under pressure as you possibly can."
