Bangladesh Men's Emerging claim first tri-series win after poor start

Bangladesh Men's Emerging Team registered their first victory of the ongoing tri-series in South Africa, beating USSA by 26 runs via the DLS method in their second match at Tuks Oval in Pretoria on Monday.

After electing to bowl, Bangladesh bundled out USSA for 248 in the final over of the rain-curtailed 47-over contest. Pacer Iqbal Hasan Emon led the attack with figures of 5-53, while Rohanat Doullah Borson chipped in with two wickets.

Jason Muirhead top-scored for USSA with 79, while Ludwich Schuld added 72.

In reply, Bangladesh slipped to 80 for three before Iftakhar Hossain Ifti and Mahidul Islam Ankon combined for an unbroken 106-run partnership for the fourth wicket to put the chase firmly on track. Ifti remained unbeaten on 71, while Ankon made an unbeaten 37 as Bangladesh reached 186 for three in 36 overs before bad light brought play to an end. Bangladesh were subsequently declared winners by 26 runs under the DLS method.

The defeat was USSA's second successive loss of the tournament.

Bangladesh had opened their campaign with a seven-wicket defeat to South Africa Emerging Team after being bowled out for just 89.

They will face USSA again at Irene Country Club in Centurion on August 7.

The three teams are playing each other twice in a double round-robin format, with the top two sides progressing to the final on August 12.
