Miraz continues impressive CPL run with four-wicket haul

Mehidy Hasan Miraz continued his impressive start to the Caribbean Premier League with a four-wicket haul as Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Trinbago Knight Riders by six wickets in Providence on Saturday.

Playing his second match of the tournament, Miraz returned 4-23 from four overs to help restrict the defending champions to 126-8 in 20 overs. He had taken three wickets in his first appearance, leaving him with seven wickets for 36 runs from his first two CPL matches.

The Bangladesh all-rounder made an immediate impact after Guyana chose to field. In the fifth over, Miraz dismissed Colin Munro for 26 and Nicholas Pooran for a golden duck with consecutive deliveries, reducing Trinbago to 41-2.

Miraz celebrated both wickets with his trademark ‘Nagin dance’, and he returned to strike twice more later in the innings. He dismissed Jyd Goolie for four in the 13th over before removing Sunil Narine for seven in the 15th.

His four wickets came at an economy rate of 5.75, as his off-spin repeatedly troubled the Knight Riders. Justin Greaves, who scored 35 off 37 balls, was Trinbago’s top scorer, while Akeal Hosein remained unbeaten on 12.

Guyana made a cautious start to the chase, losing Mavendra Dindyal for 19 and Glenn Phillips for 11 inside the first seven overs. But Shai Hope steadied the innings with an unbeaten 42 off 35 balls, including one four and two sixes.

Hope and Shimron Hetmyer then put the Amazon Warriors in control with a 51-run partnership. Hetmyer struck three sixes in his 19-ball 28 before falling in the 13th over, but Hope stayed until the end to complete the chase.

Miraz was dismissed for 2 off 14 balls, but his earlier spell had done much of the damage.

Guyana reached 127-4 in 18.4 overs, with Quentin Sampson unbeaten on 12, sealing victory with eight balls remaining.

The win was the Amazon Warriors’ eighth in nine matches, strengthening their position at the top of the CPL table. It was also the franchise’s 100th win in the competition.
