Mushfiqur set to skip match against India

Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is set to skip Bangladesh's last Super Four game of the Asia Cup against India on Friday, the BCB said in a media release.

India's 41-run win over Sri Lanka yesterday extinguished Bangladesh's hopes of making the final of the Asia Cup. Thus the last Super Four game is a dead rubber for the Tigers. Mushfiqur, who had flown back to the country to attend the birth of his second child following the Sri Lanka match, was granted an extension of leave.

"Mushfiqur has informed us that his wife is still recovering, and he needs to be by her side and with their children at this time. We fully understand his situation and have decided to permit him to skip the game," BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Mohammed Jalal Yunus was quoted as saying in the media release.

Mushfiqur was initially expected to return to Sri Lanka to play the final Super Four game against India but will now remain in Dhaka.
