Bangladesh fans win hearts with Singapore stadium cleaning act

Bangladesh may have fallen 1-0 to hosts Singapore in their final fixture of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign on Tuesday, but their supporters left a lasting impression at the National Stadium in Kallang.

Despite the disappointment of the result, some Red and Green faithful -- who made up 6,000 of the 30,000-strong crowd -- stayed back to tidy the away section, clearing litter and sweeping through the stands long after the match had ended.

It was a gesture -- captured in a TikTok video by Suman Hossain (@sumanhossain2) -- reminiscent of the stadium etiquette of Japanese supporters.

Bangladesh played for pride on Tuesday, with Singapore having already secured qualification as Group C champions, ahead of Hong Kong, Bangladesh and India.

“I think they’re the best fans in the world,” Bangladesh midfielder Hamza Choudhury said after match.

“For them to travel and spend their hard-earned money to support us like that -- even when we haven’t qualified -- is second to none. We’re so grateful.”
