Shamit Shome to join Pele's NY Cosmos!
Bangladesh midfielder Shamit Shome is reportedly set to join New York Cosmos after ending his three-year spell with Canadian Premier League club Cavalry FC.
Rumours on social media suggest that Shome has signed for the American club, which currently competes in the third tier of the US football pyramid. However, neither Shome nor New York Cosmos has officially confirmed the move.
Shome, who is of Bangladeshi descent, left Cavalry in January after the club confirmed his departure ahead of the 2026 season. He had spent three seasons with the Canadian side.
New York Cosmos have a celebrated history, having featured football legends Pele and Franz Beckenbauer in the 1970s. Pele played for the club from 1975 to 1976, while Beckenbauer also joined the Cosmos during that era.
Shome played two friendlies for Canada before switching his allegiance to Bangladesh after obtaining Bangladeshi citizenship last year.
He made his Bangladesh debut in June 2025 during the third round of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Som scored his first international goal around four months later in Bangladesh's 4-3 defeat by Hong Kong in the subsequent qualifying campaign.
