Minhaz stays unbeaten to clinch Anjan's Rapid Chess

International Master (IM) Md. Minhaz Uddin Sagar of Bangladesh Navy emerged unbeaten champion in the Anjan's International Rapid Rating Chess Tournament 2026 on Friday.

Sponsored by Anjan's, and organised by SSP Sporting Club with support from the Bangladesh Chess Federation, the day-long, eight-round Swiss-system event featured 169 players, including four International Masters, one Woman International Master, seven FIDE Masters and one Woman FIDE Master.

Minhaz clinched the title with 7.5 points. IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Bangladesh Ansar and Sonargaon University finished runner-up on seven points after the tie-break, while Candidate Master Md. Abu Hanif of Sadharan Bima Corporation Sporting Club claimed third place.

On 6.5 points, IM Manon Reja Neer of Bangladesh Navy, IM Abu Sufian Shakil of Bangladesh Police Chess Club and FIDE Master Subrota Biswas of City Club finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively on tie-break.

Grandmaster Niaz Murshed attended the prize-giving ceremony as chief guest, while Reyasat Al Wasif, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, was among the special guests.

Winners received Tk 101,000 in prize money along with medals, while special awards were also presented.
